Privacy
Hauler Daily is published by Christopher Ross, operating as thisismyurl.com, a Canadian web practitioner based in Fort Erie, Ontario. This policy explains what this site collects, why, and the rights you have under Canadian privacy law: the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
Who is responsible for your data
The publisher, Christopher Ross, is responsible for personal information collected through this site. You can reach us at [email protected].
What is collected, and why
- Messages to the editor. If you write to us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply and follow up on tips or corrections. Lawful basis under PIPEDA: consent, given when you send the message.
- The weekly digest. Signup is not open yet, and the form on this site does not send anything. When it opens, it will require your express consent under CASL, every email will carry a clear sender identity and a one-click unsubscribe, and your address will be used only for the digest. We will name the email provider on this page before signup opens.
- Server logs. Cloudflare hosts and protects this site. Its logs include IP address, user agent, requested URL, referrer and timestamps. They are used to keep the site online, investigate errors and block abusive traffic.
- Analytics. We do not run a separate analytics tool. Cloudflare, which hosts and protects this site, reports aggregate traffic to us: requests, pages, referrers and countries. Those reports use no cookies on your device. If we add an analytics tool, we will name it here before it runs.
- Cookies. This site sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies to keep the site online and block abusive traffic.
- Advertising. The only ads are house ads for the publisher’s own services at thisismyurl.com. They are plain links: no ad network, no ad scripts, no advertising cookies. If you click one, you arrive at thisismyurl.com, which has its own privacy policy and can see that you came from this site through a tracking parameter in the link. If we add a third-party ad network in future, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent before any advertising cookie is set.
What is not collected
This site does not sell personal information, and it does not use behavioural targeting, tracking pixels or fingerprinting. It does not share email addresses with marketing partners. It is not directed at children under 13, and personal information is not knowingly collected from children.
Who else processes your data
- Hosting, DNS, security and analytics: Cloudflare (United States).
- Email delivery for the digest: to be named here before signup opens.
Some of these providers process data in the United States. By using this site, you acknowledge that your information may be processed outside Canada and may be subject to lawful access requests in that jurisdiction.
How long data is kept
- Messages to the editor: up to 24 months after the conversation ends, then deleted.
- Digest subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, after which your address is kept on a suppression list so the unsubscribe is honoured.
- Server logs and analytics: held by Cloudflare under its own retention; we do not keep a separate copy.
Your rights under PIPEDA
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, withdraw consent (including for marketing) and ask for it to be deleted where the law allows. Write to [email protected]. Reasonable requests are answered within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security and breach notification
The site is served over TLS. If a breach involving personal information creates a real risk of significant harm, affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner will be notified as PIPEDA requires, and a record will be kept.
Changes
This policy is reviewed at least once a year. Material changes are noted at the top of this page for at least 30 days.
