Trucking HR Canada, a workforce research group, said on September 14, 2026 that headcount in Canada’s trucking and logistics industry was 21,600 higher in August 2026 than in August 2025, a 2.7% rise. The group said the wider Canadian labour market grew by 1% over the same twelve months.
By its count, 9,100 more people worked as transport truck drivers than a year earlier. Jobless drivers were down by 3,300, and the sector had close to 10,000 fewer unemployed people actively looking for work.
These are the group’s own research findings. It describes its general method as combining Statistics Canada data with information gathered from employers.
Craig Faucette, the group’s chief operating officer, said the numbers “point to a tightening labour market for trucking and logistics.” He added that the group “will continue to monitor how new tariffs affect the sector’s workforce.”
